Dr. Susan Hwang

Summary: I first learned about Dr. Susan Hwang from the old Asian American Coalition website where she said "Don't tell my English department advisor that I actually schedule my English courses around the [ballet] class." In this interview Dr. Susan Hwang recounts growing up in Los Angeles, an area with a large Korean American population, and the transition she experienced when she came to the predominately white institution of the University of Iowa for her PhD in English. Attending the University of Iowa from 1995-2004, Susan Hwang helped found the Asian American Coalition, and she discusses the importance of the friendships she made through the organization and the resources it provided Asian women on campus who were experiencing stalking on campus.
