Summary: Austin Wu was the first individual to reach out to me to be a part of this oral history project. Despite not being incredibly active in the Asian American community at the University of Iowa, Austin has reflected heavily on his Asian American identity especially in 2020 and 2021. Austin Wu attended the University of Iowa from 2016 to 2021 receiving both a bachelor’s of arts in Public Health and a Master’s in Public Health. In this Interview Austin talks about growing up in a mixed ethnic household, navigating his Asian American identity at university, and the changes to his perceptions of race following the COVID-19 and mass shooting in Atlanta.
