Dr. Dau-Shen Ju

Dau-shen Ju Vignette

Summary: Finding Dr. Dau-shen Ju was an adventure. His name frequently popped up from alumni as one of the earliest reasons the Asian American Coalition came into existence. Getting in touch with Dr. Ju happened because his daughter and I attended the same college, Grinnell. Through that network, we were evantually able to speak. Dr. Dau-shen Ju spent roughly 30 years living in Iowa City, first as a PhD student, then as an employee in the University of Iowa, and then as a psychologist in the Iowa Veteran Administration Medical Center. In this interview Dr. Dau-shen Ju discusses his experience at the University of Iowa following the University of Iowa Shooting by Gang Lu, being tapped by the university to build mental health resources for Asian American students through his presentation "Am I invisible?", and his early role in the Asian American Coalition.
